Curtis Granderson may be the unluckiest man in baseball this year. After missing roughly the first two months of the season with a broken fore arm after being hit by a pitch in spring training, he was once hit in last nights game that has broken his pinky knuckle.
Granderson was hit in the 5th inning and initially believed the pain would pass. He remained in the game to run the bases and it wasn’t until he reached third base that the pain began to increase and he realized the injury was more severe than he had thought. X-Ray’s were taken in Tropicana field and the fracture was revealed. It is believed he won’t need surgery at the moment but he is headed back to NY to see team doctors and get the full extent of his injury. If surgery is not needed, he is expected to miss roughly 4 weeks of action.
This is just a brutal injury for both Granderson and the Yankees. Just as they appeared on their way to getting healthy, the injury bug struck again. The Yankees has proven to be a resilient bunch this season, overcoming seemingly every obstacle that has come their way. You just have to wonder if these role players can continue to play at this high of a level or will reality catch up with them.
